Finding a Church That's Genuinely Christian

When I was looking into whether God and Christianity might be "for real," I decided at a certain point that in order for my investigation to be authentic I needed to meet God halfway, so to speak. I had already prayed for God to reveal himself to me, but it seemed to me that in order to not be seeking him halfheartedly I needed to expose myself to some of those events known as Sunday worship.
Regardless of where you're at -- something like where I was, or just interested in getting a taste of "church," or wanting to learn more about Christ, or actually ready to look for a church home -- it's naturally important for any church you try out to be genuinely Christian.
Unfortunately, some churches have responded to cultural pressures by departing from central Christian beliefs. This is true of certain entire associations of churches; for example, the Episcopal Church, United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Within Roman Catholicism there are some churches where non-Christian ideas are taught. (Groups that are sometimes mistaken as being Christian but have never been include Unitarian Universalists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints [Mormons].)
However, there are still plenty of authentic churches. It's just not always easy to identify them, especially for someone relatively new to Christianity. I will be providing links here to the websites of associations of genuinely Christian churches with locations widespread in the U.S. For the moment, here are some individual churches in my vicinity (the Piedmont of NC) that I happen to be aware of and can recommend.
