Exceptional Websites, Podcasts & More
[Still to come: BOOKS. If you get impatient, let me know!]

Resources I found credible as a longtime atheist, and others like them. Strong evidence and cogent reasoning from top-echelon scholars, scientists, authors, and commentators.

ReasonableFaith.org

  • Possibly the most wide-ranging and deeply probing body of material on the evidential and intellectual basis for belief in God and Christianity to be found in any resource designed for the use of the average layperson.

  • Brief, sophisticated, animations exploring major issues such as God's existence and the resurrection of Jesus are included.

  • Huge library of videos, including versions in Spanish.

  • Created by Dr. William Lane Craig, named one of the "50 Most Influential Living Philosophers" by TheBestSchools.org.

Why I Am a Christian, by James J. Choi

  • The first time I ever Googled evidence for Christianity, high up in the search results was this page from a Yale professor of finance's profile in the university's faculty directory. How is it that a document located so obscurely could become so well known? Just by being really good.

  • Choi walks you through the orderly chain of facts and reasoning that is the basis for his belief in Christ. He lays it all out with refreshingly clear-cut logic. And he provides just enough detail to make this more robust than a mere overview without making it too long to be brisk and to-the-point.

Sean McDowell YouTube channel

  • With a gift for asking questions that clarify, Sean McDowell often talks with authors about their latest publications on subjects important in assessing the truth or value of Christianity. The topics range from the most current social issues to challenging aspects of church history and the Bible.

  • He's relaxed and informal in a way that I imagine draws many college-age viewers but does not sacrifice rigor or clarity.

  • As for searching the channel for a desired topic: the playlists are not especially helpful, but the key-word search function works well.

TalkAboutDoubts.com

  • If you have one or more doubts, questions, or concerns about any aspect of Christianity, imagine being able to talk about each of them one-on-one with a scholar who specializes in the particular subject. This website enables you to easily do just that. The same applies if your doubts are about the existence of God, apart from Christianity.

  • Just go to TalkAboutDoubts.com, fill out their brief form, and they'll get back to you to set up a Zoom call with a suitable specialist!

  • P.S. Don't feel you need to be able to define your questions really well. The team member you talk with will probably be able to help you with that, if called for.

ColdCaseChristianity.com

  • The atheism of J. Warner Wallace, a cold-case homicide detective, ended at the age of 35 when he studied the multiple biblical accounts of Jesus's life and teachings in light of investigative principles. He found they bore the earmarks of testimony of multiple eyewitnesses of the same set of real events.

  • He excels in making the case for Christianity clearly and logically (and gives fascinating parallels with criminology).

  • Some contributions by his son are on the site, but IMHO they're apprentice work, and I recommend sticking with the father's solo material for now.

  • Virtually all aspects of the case for the truth of Christianity are covered.

  • Videos, podcasts, and articles.

  • The site is very searchable.

BibleThinker.org

  • Especially suitable for Christians seeking answers to challenging questions or a clearer understanding of the Bible.

  • Created by Mike Winger, who I think has to be the most personable of all highly gifted Bible teachers.

  • Winger's hundreds of videos can be searched in multiple ways.

  • Small sampling of multi-video topics: reliability of the Bible, "progressive Christianity," atheist arguments, "Christian" cults, a study of the gospel of Mark combining deep scriptural insights with responses to skeptics' claims regarding particular passages.

Confronting Christianity podcast

  • Featuring Rebecca McLaughlin, the Christian commentator I believe to be most attuned and responsive to the major controversies going on in Western culture today.

  • Sampling of episodes: Why Does God Care Who We Sleep With?, Should We Abandon Organized Religion?, Do Christians Want to Control Women's Bodies?, Does Juneteenth Point to Jesus?

  • For browsing the episodes by key word, subject, or guest, scroll to bottom of the podcast's home page. (On the platform linked to above.)

RethinkingHell.com

  • The doctrine of hell is disturbing. But how disturbing depends on which of the three Christian versions of the doctrine we're talking about.

  • All three views agree that Jesus taught that deliberately rejecting him in this life has truly woeful consequences after death that we should avoid at all costs.

  • However, in two of the views, the ordeal of hell does not last forever -- a profound difference, IMHO!

  • One of those two views is quite radical, but the other is held or respected by many mainstream Bible scholars and teachers. RethinkingHell.com advocates for this view. However, it also presents the other two views, including by hosting advocates for them.

Drop me a line, let me know what you think.
